Torrey Pines is a municipal course. Anyone can play it, and that's the whole point.

The pines it's named for are genuinely rare — the Torrey pine grows wild in only two places on earth, here and on Santa Rosa Island. Twisted, wind-shaped, hanging onto a sandstone cliff.
