Downtown is the real downtown of the corridor: Broadway Plaza, the streets around Locust and Main, and the BART station that makes the whole town a commute hub whether it wanted to be or not. Mount Diablo sits directly east, close enough that the summit road starts nearby. Shell Ridge and the Sugarloaf open space press right up against the neighborhoods, and the Iron Horse Trail runs south from here all the way to Pleasanton.

The walnut orchards the name came from are long gone. The name stuck anyway.
